DIN Standards Committee Information and Documentation

About NID

Founded in 1927, DIN's Standards Committee on Information and Documentation (NID) was one of the first standards committees within DIN. It is responsible for the standardization of practices relating to libraries, documentation and information centres, and publishing.

Over the years our area of work has changed dramatically. We are responsible for the national standardization of the

  • collection,
  • indexing,
  • maintenance,
  • exchange,
  • use and
  • publication of

document and data collections, particularly in archives, museums, libraries and for the publishing industry.
NID represents German interests at European and International level as well. We hold the secretariat of ISO subcommittee ISO/TC 46/SC 10 "Requirements for document storage and conditions for preservation". We also send experts to other international bodies to participate in standards work that can be important for information and documentation.
