Abstract

This International Standard describes a test procedure that can provide a preliminary differentiation between similar materials with respect to their resistance to the effects of a low-current, high-voltage arc close to the surface. The arcs cause localized thermal and chemical decomposition and erosion, and a conductive path may form on the material. The severity of the test is increased gradually: in the first stages, a low-current arc is interrupted several times, whereas in the later stages the current is increased stepwise.
