Non-destructive testing - Thermographic testing - Active thermography with inductive excitation
Abstract
This document specifies the procedure of active thermography with inductive excitation for the purpose of surface near defect tests. Active thermography with inductive excitation is mainly applicable for testing of metallic test objects: Such tests are conducted for: • • • the detection of surface cracks. the detection of concealed near-surface discontinuities. the detection volumetric inhomogeneities at joins (welding, soldering, …). For this purpose, active thermography with inductive excitation is conducted using different sources of excitation (induction generators, inductors) in reflection and transmission configurations. The requirements for the equipment, for the verification of the system, for the surface condition of the part to be tested, for the recording, the processing and the interpretation of the results are specified. Acceptance criteria are not defined. 6. Digital aspects Fields of application for active thermography with inductive excitation are to be found in industrial manufacturing (vehicle, drive system and power plant components, jointing technique, semi-finished products etc.
