Natural stone test methods — Assessment of the weathering resistance
Abstract
This standard is prepared by the working committee NA 062-03-11 GA "Natural stone; requirements, test methods and terminology" of the standards committees Materials Testing (NMP) and Construction (NABau). This document specifies important test methods for assessing the weathering resistance of natural stone. These assessments relate to various areas of application: (a) Rocks for use as natural stone at the deposit and/or extraction site; b) natural stone products for and in construction works, e.g. natural stone for masonry; kerbstones, paving slabs and paving stones; natural stone coverings. It describes methods that can be used to assess the behavior of a stone as a building material under the influence of weathering. Test methods are only described in this document to the extent that reference cannot be made to other standards. The examination of rock weathering by microorganisms is not the subject of this document. Similarly, special rock engineering tests in connection with the refurbishment of buildings are not considered, nor is the question of whether the procedures described here are the subject of separate agreements.
