Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, the manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard specifies safety and hygiene requirements for the design and manufacture of intermediate provers with moving pocket carriers used in the food industry, pastry-making, bakeries, etcetera, for giving a resting time to dough between dividing and moulding processes. This European Standard specifies all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to the installation, adjustment, operation, cleaning, maintenance, dismantling, disabling and scrapping of intermediate provers with moving pocket carriers when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see clause 4). The significant hazards covered by the standard are mechanical (shearing, trapping, cutting, loss of stability), electrical, ergonomic and also those resulting from inhalation of flour dust and lack of hygiene. Noise is not considered to be a significant hazard from intermediate provers. This does not mean that the manufacturer of the machine is absolved from reducing noise and making a noise declaration. Therefore a noise test code is proposed in Annex B. The following machines are excluded: rack provers; experimental and testing machines under development by the manufacturer. This European Standard is not applicable to intermediate provers with moving pocket carriers which are manufactured before the date of its publication as an EN. This standard contains the German version of EN 12043:2000+A1:2010, which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 153 "Machinery intended for use with foodstuffs and feed" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 12043:2000: a) The standard has been changed and adapted with respect to the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; b) An informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of the standard are represented by Committee NA 060-18-01 AA "Bäckereimaschinen" ("Bakery equipment") of Technical Section "Food Processing Machinery" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the interested parties were involved in the preparation of this standard.
